Welcome back to the GTA 6 weekly news recap. The week of September 5 to 11 started sleepy and ended with one of the busiest single days of the pre-launch calendar: Thursday, September 10 delivered a controller sellout, a city commission vote and the opening of Rockstar's biggest legal battle, all before lunch. As of today we are 69 days from the November 19 launch and 62 days from preload.
If you missed last week's recap, it covered the suppressive fire confirmation, the 272-vehicle fan count and the sealed Discord subpoena. This week, the news moved from the game to the world around it.
Nopixel V's Closed Beta Went Live
The week opened with roleplay. On Monday, September 8, Nopixel V, the first GTA roleplay server with official Rockstar backing, began its invite-only closed beta on the Rockstar Games Launcher. Reported invite lists ran to about 439 creators, with names like xQc, Valkyrae and Pokimane among them, and Twitch Drops run September 8-30 with rewards reportedly including GTA$1,500,000 and a Burger Shot tracksuit. Our closed beta report and Twitch Drops guide have the details, along with the standing caveat: this is GTA V content, and it confirms nothing about GTA 6 Online.
The Unlock Map Solidified
Early in the week, fan outlets finished mapping the regional unlock times hidden in PlayStation Store listings: 15 windows across 63 countries, New Zealand first, and a roughly 19-hour global spread that leaves the United States among the last major markets to play. Kotaku ran with exactly that angle on September 8, warning American players to expect a spoiler minefield through November 18. None of it is an official Rockstar schedule, but the store data is consistent enough that launch planning can start now.
Thursday, September 10: Everything at Once
DualSense pre-orders opened and immediately buckled
The limited edition GTA 6 DualSense controllers went up for pre-order at $84.99 and demand crushed PlayStation Direct: hour-long queues, checkout errors and an Astro Bot apology screen. Best Buy sold through in minutes, white-variant stock lingered at Walmart and GameStop, and eBay scalpers listed unshipped controllers for up to $195. The full story, including why we would not pay resale prices, is in our sellout and scalpers report.
Miami Beach voted 4 to 3 to chase Rockstar's money
Miami Beach commissioners voted to authorize their city manager to negotiate a GTA 6 marketing deal, after a debate in which one commissioner screened Extended Look footage as evidence against the game and another proudly declared herself a GTA-playing "gaming nerd." That makes three separate Florida governments now weighing Vice City money, each covered in our Miami Beach vote story.
The Glasgow tribunal opened
The employment tribunal over Rockstar's November 2025 firing of 34 workers began with a rally outside the Glasgow Tribunal Centre. The hearing runs into mid-October, every allegation including blacklisting is in play, and the workers are seeking reinstatement. Our day one report explains what the tribunal will decide and why it cannot delay the game.
The Lighter Stuff
The internet spent part of the week proving Rockstar's animators right. After weeks of debate over Jason's odd-looking backflip in the Extended Look, a skilled athlete recreated the move in real life for Kotaku's cameras, odd form and all. Sometimes the uncanny animation is just an accurate one.
Looking ahead, the next fixed date is the Take-Two shareholder meeting on September 17, which remains routine governance rather than a reveal venue. Beyond that, the marketing runway to November is wide open, and Rockstar has said more marketing is coming before launch.
Frequently Asked Questions
What was the biggest GTA 6 news this week?
Thursday, September 10 packed three stories into one day: DualSense controller pre-orders sold out amid site failures, Miami Beach voted 4-3 to negotiate a marketing deal with Rockstar, and the Glasgow employment tribunal over the 2025 firings began.
Did Rockstar announce anything new this week?
No. Rockstar itself published nothing new this week; the news came from Sony's controller launch, Florida city governments, the UK courts and the Nopixel V beta rollout.
How many days until GTA 6 comes out?
As of September 11, 2026, there are 69 days until the November 19 launch and 62 days until digital preload begins on November 12.
What should I watch next week?
The Take-Two shareholder meeting on September 17 is the only fixed date, and expectations there should stay low. Tribunal testimony continues in Glasgow, and controller restocks may appear at major retailers without warning.
The Bottom Line
A quiet week on the Rockstar Newswire turned into a loud one everywhere else: the first GTA 6 hardware sold out in minutes, Florida politicians auditioned for Vice City on camera, and the most consequential labor case in the industry's recent history finally reached a courtroom. The game is done and dated; the world around it is where the drama lives now, with 69 days on the clock.
